Initial Impressions

The download and installation process is quick, which is good. What is slightly annoying is that the software automatically starts scanning your registry once the installation process is complete. Although there is nothing wrong with this and you can stop the scan anytime by hitting the stop button, it would have been much better if it allowed the user to decide if he/she wants to run the scan right now. The popping up of the scanning screen is a bit abrupt and it prevents the user from seeing the home screen of the user interface straightway.

Once you open the home screen, you find that it clearly lists all the major features that this software offers. Another good point is that there is a System Health Monitor on the left-hand side of the home screen that explicitly states the current state of your PC.

Apart from on one or two minor hiccups, Registry Mechanic comes across as an easy to use software with a user-friendly but basic interface.

Usability

Clear, large buttons on the screen make it is easy to use Registry Mechanic. Navigation through different screens is also easy.

Getting Registry Mechanic to perform a particular task is simple: you just need to select the right button and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Performance

Registry Mechanic’s performance is quite solid. The software does not take much time to scan your registry. Similarly, the process of fixing reported issues is also breezy.

Customer Support

PC Tools provides technical support through chat, email, and phone to customers who purchase the full version of their software.

Pros

  • Deep scans your registry.
  • Fixes reported registry issues and improves the performance of your Windows computer.
  • Defrags your registry files.
  • Protects Internet privacy.
  • Securely deletes selected files.
  • Includes a Service Optimizer feature to help you improve the setup and performance of Windows services running on your computer.

Cons

  • Novice computer users may not find the user interface descriptive enough.
  • Advanced computer users may find features (other than the registry cleaner and registry defrag) too basic.
  • The software takes a bit longer to scan the registry than a few other registry cleaners.

Registry Mechanic does have a few minor flaws, but its pluses outweigh the negatives by a long shot. The truth is that Registry Mechanic meets all the requirements of a good registry cleaner – it is fast, easy to use, and dependable.

All in all, at $29.95, Registry Mechanic is a good buy.
