Best SEO Directories – My Top 7 Link Directory Sources!

By Wesley Atkins On January 18, 2009 Under SEO

Before I start building links to any new site, I always make sure I get a boost to my domain by building some *high quality* trusted links first. This strategy has always worked pretty well for me in the past as I focus on getting highly trusted links to my domain instead of tons of low quality links.

So here are the only directories that I submit my sites too. All have good PR and very good cache dates..

Dmoz – Although it is near impossible to get your site listed at Dmoz these days, its still worth submitting to as this directory is free and is owned by Google. One of the best links you could possibly get.

Yahoo Dir – They charge a $299 annual fee to list your site which even though they tell you otherwise, will get refunded if your site is rejected. Even at this price I highly recommend this directory due to the big boost of link juice. You get listed in all regional directories of Yahoo too, which will give you a bunch of good links.

Best Of The Web – This is my 3rd favourite directory t submit your site too. They charge $99.95 to list your site per year or $249.95 as a one-time review fee. Excellent PR and good cache dates make this a top directory to get into.

Go Guides – This has been a good directory for some time, they charge a $40 listing fee but worth every penny. You can also get in for free as an editor.

Joe Ant – Same as GoGuides, free for editors and $40 fee to list your site, again a very worthy directory.

Skaffe – Originally built from the GoGuides platform, this is also a pretty good directory that charges a $40 listing fee.

Gimpsy – A web directory with a little difference as its verb based. Still very good place to list your site for link juice – again a $40 listing fee.

Thanks for your list of directories. I would love to get my site listed in DMOZ. :) . It has not happened yet. I think I will try for “Best of the Web”, but I will not give up on DMOZ.

Thanks again for the great post!!!

The sites that you really want to rank, or at least get a wide audience needs to be submitted to these directories. Getting your site listed means a lot.

Hi there. I do web research every day and have never seen GoG uides, Joe Ant, Skaffe, and Gimpsy show up in the organic results of Google or Yahoo, so I’m wondering where you usually see these directories appear? ‘Most’ of my clients won’t pay all of these directory fees – thus my questions about ‘where’ they appear since I’ve never seen them. Thanks for sharing. I’m anxious to hear back!

I appreciate you sharing your top directories. The Yahoo directory is the one I have questioned. Never spent the cash for it so I have not been able to experience it in the serps. I submitted to Best of the web and Joe Ant lately. Best of the Web was picked up after two days but Joe Ant has yet to produce a link after two weeks. Still waiting to see when the engines will pick it up.

Thanks again

I wouldn’t worry about them not showing up in the rankings, the purpose of using these is to gain a link from a quality directory. From hundreds of directories tested online these are the ones with the best cache dates, internal linking and pagerank. All of which will benefit your site.

I don’t know why I am so sceptical about paying money to submit to this directories. I paid for Clush and I think it has helped me in the serps, not sure though. Thanks for sharing

Your top 4 are the same as the top four I have on my list of directories… good job. the others you have are pretty good to. dmoz, yahoo, botw, and goguides are pretty much the best… also business.com is good too.

Hi Wes,

Thanks for sharing the wealth.

Similiar to some of the previous comments I would have trouble getting most of my clients to spring for around 600 bucks on these links.

Any reason why you think these links are better than ones you could get for free on the various social media sites like mixx, propeller etc.

Thanks

Eoin

Hi Weesly

I just noticed your blog and read your article on SEO directories. I thought you might also be interested in a SEO glossary at http://www.webbedmarketing.com/searchglossary.html.

This page has information about terms on search engine optimization and seems like something you might want to include on your blog, or maybe link to.

Let me know if you have any questions about this information or would like to learn more.

Have a great day,

Megan

Thanks for the list. What are the top free directories you would recommend that do not require reciprocal links?
