JPEG Format – JPG Format
JPG is the most widely used image saving format. JPEG is a format which is automatically saved in various cameras. JPEG is also denoted as JPG format. This is a lossy format where you can resize the image up to 10 percent of the original size. In this format you will see slight loss of quality of your image. The files which are compressed in JPEG format looks for similar pixels and it removes those which are not required. Then this format makes the best guess and puts them back again when the file is open. Hence when you make changes in JPG format you might counter those wrong guesses which have destroyed your image quality.
TIFF Format
TIFF or TIF as it is suffixed is a lossless image file format. This is the best format to choose if you want to keep the quality of your image unaltered. This is the best format if you want to have the same image quality without any compression of your image and you also don’t want to change the size of the image. You might need to compress your image if you wish to save it in JPEG format. In TIF your color tone and size is not changed and hence it gives you the exact quality of the image. This is the most widely used file format. If you want to have high image quality images ready for printing.
Photoshop File Format
Photoshop is an image editing software package in which you can edit your image and save them in the same format. Photoshop files are saved with suffix .PSD files. Since Photoshop is popular photo editing software so it has become very common for people to save images in this format. The most important factor for which this format is popular is that this format support enhanced color information which is even better than the TIFF files. This format usually creates large sized files.
GIF Format
Another image compressed image file saving format is GIFF with a suffix .GIF. This format was introduced to save internet files which are used for web designing. This format uses very restricted colors which are just 256. This is an ideal format for graphic images with large expansions of even color. Images which are saved in GIF format are most likely to lose a great amount of color information.
